1984 – Ensemble Baroque de Limoges founded under conductor Jean-Michel Hasler. From the start, the EBL aimed to become a reference in the performance of 17th- and 18th-century music.
1991 – Christophe Coin nominated as the new musical director.
1992 – Work starts on researching, publishing, distribution and performances of previously unpublished music. The first score brought to light was a baroque zarzuela by José de Nebra “Viento es la dicha de Amor”, followed by Graun's concertos for viola da gamba, Draghi's “La Vita della Morte” etc..
Since 1992 – The EBL have been regular guests at major international events such as the Salzburg Mozartwoche, Leipzig Bachtage, Innsbruck Festwoche der Alten Musik, as well playing at the Wigmore Hall in London, the Bach festival in Milan, in Paris at the Cité de la Musique and Châtelet Theatre, as in many other venues throughout France.
Since 1992 – Playing techniques on early music instruments have been the subject of several international symposium organised in Limousin – the first being on instruments with sympathetic strings, followed by three meetings on French, German and English viola da gamba. Additional one-day seminars have also taken place on playing natural trumpets and hunting horns, bagpipes and chabrettes.
1995 – Christophe Coin and EBL won first prize at France's Music Awards Competition, Victoires de la Musique Classique, in the category of best instrumental ensemble, for their recording of all Bach'scello piccolo Cantatas.
1996 – Acquisition of La-Borie-en-Limousin estate located just next to Limoges, officially listed as a Cultural Uncounter Centre in 2003. The site offers a permanent base for the EBL.
Since 2000/2001 – Classed by the French Ministry of Culture as an organisation for applied research, opening up an increasing number of partnerships with international bodies and the establishment of a working convention with the Musée de la Musique / Cité de la Musique (Paris) and the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles.
Since 2001 – Musicians from the Ensemble have been actively involved in providing specialised training in Baroque music for teachers at music schools and conservatories on a national level. Collaboration with local secondary education schools in Limousin, has also been growing (contact with 7500 pupils over the last four years).
The EBL so far has given over 1000 concerts in France and Limousin , more than 200 concerts abroad, offered 20 seasons of music to its local audience in Limoges , relying on a solid base of 500 regular subscribers.
Since 2005, the EBL is recording on the Label LABORIE Classic (http://boutique.ebl-laborie.com) promoting original music, as the unpublished ballet Les Folies de Cardenio by De Lalande, or DeLirium, music for lira organizzata (on organ hurdy-gurdies specialy re-created for the recording) and for baryton by Joseph Haydn.
The next twenty years are filled with the promises of expanding its work in partnership : record, train and broaden its audience, publish the result of research, and keep going in Limousin.
